Arrows

Feb. 2024

With Valentine’s coming up, I was motivated to do a romantic and ethereal couples photo project. I used Cupid’s arrow as the main inspiration to create this scene, which captured a sense of tragedy and unwavering love at the same time. I wanted the end result to have a bit of a Pre-Raphaelite, painted feel to it.

Figuring out the general pose was the first step in our process. We liked having them close to the ground and embracing each other. It started off feeling too sad, so we adjusted the pose to have Brandy supporting herself more and for both of them gazing into each other’s eyes.

We knew we wanted the outfits to be red and white, and very minimalistic like a toga. So, we visited F&M Fabrics in Bakersfield and picked out the two perfect fabrics for us.

For convenience, I set up our photo studio in Brandy & Morgan’s living room. I used a white backdrop and broad, soft lighting to help give that flattering, dreamlike look. We put artificial leaves on the ground to be included in the final image.

After we figured out how to put the outfits together, I crafted all the other details including the arrows from wooden dowels and the flower crowns from thrifted artificial flowers.
