“Bubble Gum Brawl” (Short Film)

An epic fight breaks out on the sidewalk after one person steps on another person's bubble gum.

I used storyboarding software to digitally re-create the area we’d be filming in. This makes it extremely easy to test out any camera angle, position, and choreography for the actors ahead of time.

After coming up with the story, we played around with all kinds of fight moves to come up with the choreography. My goal was to incorporate the gum as a weapon in a creative way to progress the fight.

I wanted an exaggerated look for the gum, so we used pink slime and pink putty anytime it was on the ground or on Julie’s face. The only time we used real chewing gum was for the intro shot when Liz blew the bubble.

Luis and I recorded our own sound effects for many of the whooshes, impacts, and textures heard in the film. We had fun experimenting with different objects for unique sounds.

I worked with Justus Dixon and directed him for the style of music I was looking for, and he created it all himself! He composed the music to a rough draft of the film so that everything matched the action.
