Eunith - How You See Me

Dec. 2022

“How You See Me” is a sequel to our previous music video, “Place Me”. This time, we follow Matthew’s journey as he tries to escape a peculiar living room that seems to bring him back to a new dimension with each new attempt.

Thanks to our friends Dave Anderson and Emily Parks Waite, we were able to use a room in downtown Bakersfield's Woolworth's building for our production. The biggest challenge was transforming and set designing this empty room with a low budget, and a tight schedule.

Fortunately, we had the support and generosity from many of our friends to help bring this room to life, with various furniture, artwork, and décor.

We managed to create ten unique moods within this room, by changing lighting styles, incorporating people and props, and pushing looks even further in editing with color grading and vfx.

For the freefalling sequence, we surrounded Matthew with fans and a leaf blower to get that wind movement in his hair and clothing. I also filmed Matthew while intentionally shaking the camera to add that extra intensity. Then in editing, I inverted the footage and added digital wind/motion elements to complete the look.

For the underwater sequence, we angled the fans below Matthew to give that fluid movement to his hair and clothing. Then we had Matthew lip sync to a sped up version of the song, so I could slow down the footage in editing and give the illusion of moving through water. Finally, I captured real bubbles and particle movement in an aquarium that I composited into the footage.

We repurposed this hot tub as our set for the water surface sequence, by placing black fabric beside and under the water. We also filmed with a sped up version of the song again, to slow down the footage afterwards for a more dreamlike feeling.
